Cpl John Sauer 20 son of Mrs Leo Appell and former Darlington resident died in Korea from injuries suffered in action. He joined the Army Reserve in 1949 and was called to active duty September 24 1950. He landed in Korea November 15 serving with Company K 8th Cavalry Regiment First Cavalry Division. A Gratiot High School graduate he attended LaCrosse State Teachers College a year before service. In addition to his mother he is survived by sisters Vin Wagner of Freeport and Maureen at home.
