Kohler Company Proposes Settlement Of Long UAW Strike

Kohler Co offers a new plan to settle the eight year dispute with Local 833 United Auto Workers. Clergymen mediators led talks that resumed Wednesday at St Clement's rectory with a two and a half hour session. Herbert Kohler attended with other Kohler officials while the union would comment only via Rev Cronin who spoke for the mediating team. The strike began in April 1954 over wages and union security and production has since resumed with new and non striking workers.

Lillian Johnson 95 dies in Brodhead

Lillian M. Johnson 95 oldest native of Brodhead and longtime Belvidere resident died at 10 a.m. at the home of Mrs. T. R. Howard in Brodhead. Born May 12, 1861, she taught in local schools and married Willard B. Johnson in 1886. She leaves a son Foster and eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a daughter Mrs. Elmer Dix. Services Sunday at Newcomer Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood cemetery.

Grandmother among victims in drag race crash at Milwaukee intersection

An elderly grandmother died when two speeding autos struck her car at a Milwaukee intersection, part of a highway crash tally reaching 90 for the year. John Bohr, 27, of Shawano, also died in a separate late night collision near Angelica. Esther Selle, 75, died after a drag race involved vehicle struck the car she rode in. the teen driver denied racing.

Rockford Youth To Face Charge In Car Theft

A 19 year old Rockford youth will face charges in Justice Court tomorrow for stealing a car from a Brodhead man on November 5. Lester Keith Oliver was jailed after arrest by Rockford police with Duane Youngblood Brodhead chief of police confirming the case. An 18 year old Rockford youth was arrested but released after no evidence. Oliver allegedly removed the motor from a 1950 car, swapped it into his vehicle, and sold the remainder as junk for 12 dollars.
