Wisconsin wakes to a mix of heavy snow freezing rain rain and dense fog causing travel trouble. Rain moved north from the south Thursday then turned to snow and freezing rain with a reported thunderstorm in Cassville. NWS Suwaukee cautions flood rises in Southeastern Wisconsin by Saturday as warm temps melt snow. Temperatures ranged 41 in Beloit Racine and Wausau and 32 in Superior with colder 19 in Eagle River Land O Lakes and Superior overnight.

Fire damages Chesebro trailer. dog dies in blaze

Horace D. Sabin family trailer at 801 House Trailer Court on Highway 18 West sustained extensive damage after a morning fire. The kitchen and living areas were burnt and smoke damaged while the family dog suffocated. Fire Chief Joe Benkett said a stove burner left on with a pan on top ignited the ceiling. Sabin was at work. his wife was downtown and the couple has one small child. Monroe Volunteer Firemen answered the 10:20 a.m. call and remained about an hour.

Green County's official population in the 1970 census was 26,714, up 3.3 percent from 25,851 in 1960. The state total reached 4,417,933, up 11.8 percent from 1960. The 1970 census counted 26,622 whites in Green County, 99.7 percent of the populace.
