Award Night Honorees At Brodhead JCs Meeting

Brodhead Junior Chamber of Commerce names Danny Markham outstanding young man and Russell Williams outstanding farmer at Grant's Maple Grove Inn. Markham, 27, editor of the Brodhead Independent Register, received the Jaycee Distinguished Service Award. Williams, 32, owns a 240 acre Decatur Township farm, won top farmer honors. Heidi Leatherman received the Voice of Democracy award and a $25 bond. Ann Logan and Janeen Zumbach earned runner up cash awards.

The Monroe New Car and Truck Dealers Association voted to hold its third annual Monroe Automobile Show and Open House Friday March 29 through Sunday March 31, instead of March 30 and 31. Alton Kiel, president, cited merchants choosing to stay open Friday nights as the reason for the change.

Georgia Assembly Votes To Impeach Six High Court Justices

The Georgia House passed a resolution to impeach six U S Supreme Court justices Chief Justice Earl Warren and Associate Justices Black Douglas Reed Frankfurter and Clark, charging high crimes and misdemeanors over sedition and segregation rulings. The vote was 107 to 33 with 57 not voting.

Mason Barber Harvey W Mason Dies at 60

Harvey W Mason 60, a Monroe barber since 1924, died of a heart attack at his home 2514 17th Street shortly before noon today. He worked at Day's shop on the square this morning and had a long career with partners Spaide and Mason at locations on 17th Avenue and in the Spaide shop. A WWI veteran, he is survived by his wife Josephine Gavigan of Blanchardville, a son Eugene, two brothers Harney and Harry, two sisters Effie Baggs and Bertha Haldiman, and one grandson. Blanchardville Funeral Home is in charge.

Lighthouse Target for Navy Plane Guns

Three Navy attack bombers firing practice near Bloodsworth Island in Chesapeake Bay shot past their target and hit a Coast Guard lighthouse at Point Lookout Maryland. Two lighthouse keepers sustained minor scratches according to a Coast Guard spokesman noting the target was aligned with the lighthouse.

Second Slayer Granted Parole

Dominic Lampone 41 of Milwaukee is granted parole from Waupun after serving a life term for a 1946 Kenosha County gun slaying. He is the second of a four man gang to gain clemency. Jerome Mandella was paroled last Friday.
