Polar Bear Derby Canceled Amid Frosty Weather

The Polar Bears camp out for advanced Scouts is canceled due to sub zero temperatures. The Klondike Derby proceeds tomorrow from 1 to 5 pm at Zanders Wildlife Area with sled racing and outdoor skill events. Over 150 Valley District Scouts will compete for ribbons and total points awards.

Wisconsin Highway Plan Urged By State Official

Vern L. Wiedler of the State Highway Commission urged an accelerated highway program in Wisconsin, citing rising licensed drivers and a 75 percent vehicle increase in ten years. He called for a bonding program and announced surveys on Highway 69 bypass with construction likely to start in 1967, and H 11 re routing around Monroe planned for late 1969.

Plan Aims to Extend Wisconsin Bikeway Through Green and Dane

The Bicycle Institute of America seeks Green and Dane Counties to complete a Kenosha to La Crosse bikeway across Wisconsin. A meeting at the Agricultural Building March 3 will outline the plan with a May 1 dedication targeted. Officials note signs will be blue and white without lettering.

The Red Cross blood mobile in Brodhead collected 4 pints over its 2 to 6 p.m. visit with 69 registered and 31 walk-ins at the Brodhead Bank courtesy room. Bandits Flee After Fiasco In Madison

In Madison two would be robbers fled a grocery store after failing to crack the till. Burke Flick, a lawyer merchant, watched from the rear as the pair threatened him and fled through a window after tossing a spray of cans and bottles. A neighbor aided, and police held one man for questioning.

Benefit Slated For Golacksons In South Wayne

South Wayne residents plan a benefit card party at 8 p m this Sunday at South Wayne High School to aid the Golackson family whose home burned Wednesday night leaving the farm intact but the house and contents destroyed.
