Mrs. J Willis Duerst 59 of 1110 20th avenue died at 9 40 this morning in St. Clare hospital after a long illness She had been hospitalized since November She worked for J C Penney in the area for 10 years She was born Emma Elizabeth Zumkehr July 18 1900 in Brooklyn Township She married J Willis Duerst December 27 1921 in New Glarus They lived there until 1930 then farmed in Monroe area before moving to the city in 1943 She was a member of St Johns United Church of Christ and was baptized at Zwingli Church of Monticello Surviving are her husband a son Harlow Prairie du Chien three brothers Edward John Zumkehr New Glarus and Arnold Madison a sister Mrs Cleve Dinges Monroe and two grandchildren Jean and Lisa Duerst She was preceded in death by her parents three brothers Fred Jacob William and a grandson Brian May 1958 Services will be at 2 pm Saturday at St Johns Church Rev Paul H Olm to officiate Burial in Greenwood cemetery Friends may call at Stuessy funeral home from noon tomorrow until 10 am Saturday when the body will be taken to the church There will be no visitation at the church.
