City Council Rejects Civil Defense Director Salary Proposal

Major Jesus Sosa Blanco, 51, a career officer and war crime convict, was executed by firing squad at La Cabana Fortress in Cuba after calmly ordering the execution. Army sources say he forgave his guards as the squad prepared and issued the salute to fire.

No White Students Return as Virginia School Reopens
War ren County high school in Front Royal reopened with 22 Negro children and six white teachers present but no white students among the enrollees. Officials had expected a dozen white children and planned for 14 noncontract teachers, yet only six teachers plus the principal and secretary were on hand.
