Nearly 1,000 African Americans gathered at the Dallas County Courthouse in Selma to demand faster voter registration. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr led the march from Brown's Chapel A.M.E. Church while Sheriff James G. Clark watched from a window. The protest followed a permit allowing 600 walkers along a set route as leaders pledged continued action until registration speeds improve.

Henry Heuer 89 a retired farmer who moved to Monroe in 1921 died suddenly at 10 30 a m yesterday in his home 2727 6th St from a heart attack He was born in Germany March 28 1875 came to America in 1892 settling at Belvidere Ill He was married to Caroline Kraus and farmed in Washington Township Green County Surviving are his widow two sons John and Victor two daughters Mrs Henry Pflughoeft Winona Minn and Mrs Wilbert Elmer New Glarus six grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren He was predeceased by a granddaughter Pauline Elmer and a sister Mrs Emil Schwarz Services will be held at 1 30 p m tomorrow at Stuessy Funeral Home with Rev Donald Storck officiating Burial will be in United Church of Christ Cemetery New Glarus Friends may call at the funeral home.
