Farmers Institute Winners Announced at New Glarus
Winners in the corn silage and grass silage contests at the New Glarus Farm Institute were announced. First, second, and third in corn silage went to John Hanna of New Glarus, Robert Johnson and Jacob Crooks of Blanchardville. Grass silage honors went to Matt Stauffer of Monticello, Robert Johnson and Allen Hanna of New Glarus, Kay Russell Fjelstad of Blanchardville, Earl Voegels and Wilbert Hess of New Glarus. Over 500 attended a dinner at the all day event held at New Glarus High School.

Frank W. Stoldt aged 81 of 1013 12th avenue died at 6 25 am at his home after a several year illness. Born in Cremzow Germany March 23 1875 he came to Monroe with his parents at age six. He married Mildred Bratley in 1898 and later ran a real estate business with his brother Albert H. Stoldt who died May 4. A B 47 bomber from Hunter Air Force Base landed safely at Hunter after crewmen extinguished a tail fire during a training flight. One crew member bailed into the Atlantic and was rescued by a naval plane. Four men were aboard including Capt. Charles E. Steward who bailed out before the plane returned to Savannah.
