Eight Mishaps Reported in Area For The Weekend

Eight accidents were investigated by law enforcement over the weekend with no serious injuries. Incidents include a Monroe area two car collision on highway 1181 injuring none, a ditch crash near Brooklyn, a guard post strike near Monroe, a parked car damage in Monroe, and several minor city incidents. Police logged moderate damage in two Monroe weekday morning collisions and minor damage in a 22nd Avenue collision.

Green County Barbershop Chorus Performs in Freeport

About twenty five Green County Barber Shop Chorus members and some wives joined Freeport SPEBSQSA Chorus for the Riverboat Revue at the Masonic Temple. The Monroe Freeport Chorus sang many numbers including The Lord's Prayer. Ken Hur of Madison served as master of ceremonies. Quartets Hi Brows Varieties and Four Casuals from Chicago performed. The Four Casuals hold international medals. Leon Rabe directs both Green County chorus and Freeport Sweet Adelines.

Camera Class Slated To Start Wednesday

The Alpine Camera Club will hold the first class in a series on The Simple Camera at 7 45 p m Wednesday in the First National Bank Monroe. Members and 4H participants are urged to bring cameras notebooks and arrive before the start under program chairman Rodney Best guidance.

Monroe Jaycettes Mature Youth Group Marks 43 Members

The Monroe Jaycettes, 43 members strong, join Wisconsin Jaycettes in declaring February 12 18 as Jaycette Week. Since 1960 they have raised funds totaling 4054.35 for Cerebral Palsy Mental Health and Retardation civic and local charity work including therapy equipment, a CP camp stay, library books and Center support, bloodmobil e participation, and civic hosting in Monroe.

Fisheree at Yellowstone Lake Delayed Yet Fun Despite Cold

The Yellowstone Lake fisheree drew attendees despite subzero temps and fresh snow after a one week postponement. Prize fish included a 2 lb 13 oz sucker by Clayton Leighty and a 10 lb bluegill pile for Ed Metz from Dakota Illinois, with Lloyd Ostby of Argyle winning a 1 lb 3 oz crappie. No northerns walleye or large mouth bass were reported, and ice depth ranged from one to two feet as participants camped in icehouses. The event capably hosted a chilly but fellowship filled gathering.

Maurice Quinn Succumbs at 57

Maurice Quinn 57 of Madison died Saturday at his home from a heart attack. He had worked at J C Penney, later in a service station, and for 13 years as a shop foreman at Madison Motor Co. He was born May 24 1910 in Argyle and married Agatha Smith in Dubuque. Surviving are his widow, a stepdaughter, five sisters and five brothers. Funeral services set for 11 a.m. tomorrow at Erickson Funeral Home Argyle with burial at Calvary Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited tonight.

Sledding Derby Fuels Mulligan Stew Feast for Scouts

105 Boy Scouts gathered at Browntown Wildlife Area for the Alaskan Polar Bear Derby. Dewey Dwyer, Valley District camping and activities chair, led more than 100 scouters as each boy dumped a canned soup into a pot for Mulligan stew. Eight gallons of milk and about 100 chocolate bars accompanied the meal.

Reverend Plymire Accepts Milwaukee Pastorate

Rev. James C. Plymire of Monroe announces acceptance of a call to be senior pastor at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. He will begin April 15 after delivering his last Monroe sermon April 9. Plymire led Grace Lutheran since 1961 and expanded facilities. He held multiple community roles including Green County ministerial president and various philanthropic posts.
