Monroe Soldier Wilbert Block Killed in Korea
Sergeant Wilbert G. Block 24 of Monroe was killed in action February 5 in Korea on a combat patrol. He served in Korea since August and had earlier served in Germany and Japan. He leaves his mother Lena Block and siblings. he was born March 11, 1927 in New Glarus and enlisted May 5, 1945. Block wore the Victory and Army of Occupation medals and had hoped for a rest leave in Japan before his death.

Youths Sentenced For Tavern Holdup Near Brooklyn
Two Oregon men admitted armed robbery of the Stone tavern near Brooklyn and were sentenced in Madison superior court. Jerome Nedrose, 22, received one to three years in the state prison. Jurgen Offerdahl, 19, one to four years in the state reformatory. Offerdahl’s probation on a non-support charge will be revoked and run concurrently with the robbery sentence. They used an unloaded automatic to hold up Mrs. George Hansen.
