Joseph Huber Brewery Chief Dies in Monroe at 83

Joseph B. Huber 83, president of Jos. Huber Brewing Co. in Monroe, died at St. Clare Hospital after illness starting Sunday. A German-born American brewer, he joined Monroe brewery in 1927, led expansion to four beers and 85 staff, and received the Monroe Distinguished Service Award in 1975. He leaves wife Rose, a son Fred, a daughter Mary Ann Cummins, a sister, 11 grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Burial at Calvary Cemetery with services Thursday. Memorials to the American Heart Association or Kiwanis Foundation.

A defamation of character suit has been filed against Donald L. Amacher by Green County State Trooper Frank Van Horn over a letter to the Wisconsin State Patrol alleging perjury. Judge Franz W. Wisconsin Assembly approves raffle amendment for non-profit groups

The Wisconsin Assembly passed 84 to 11 a proposed constitutional amendment allowing religious charitable service fraternal and veterans organizations to conduct raffles under legislative rules. If the Senate backs it voters could decide by statewide referendum this year with profits going to the sponsoring organization.

A house owned by Alfred Bartosik on the east side of Gratiot burned today with no one inside. The Fire Department reported the blaze started early and caused extensive damage to the residence.
