High Water Hits Throughout Area in County

After a weekend of rain sleet and fog the Pecatonica River floods reach into the county. Monticello reports standing water on County Trunk EE and Skinner Creek over County Trunk Y as crews work to drain roads. The river overflows at Darlington flooding part of the Lafayette County Fairgrounds.

Huston Receives Webelos Award At Blue and Gold Banquet

Doug Huston son of Mr and Mrs Enoch Huston earned the Webelos Award and moved to Boy Scout Troop 101 during Cub Scout Troop 314s Blue and Gold Banquet held in the Junior High School cafeteria. Special guests included Lions Club rep and families as well as Rev Wesley Burns who gave the invocation.

Green County Holstein Breeders Elect New Officers

Edward Oliver of Albany was elected president of the Green County Holstein Breeders Association at the annual meeting. The group elected two incumbents and one new director, discussed a state Black and White Show, and planned Cheese Day promotion with 10 000 napkins to be produced.

GOP Caucus Date Set for Green County February 25

The Green County Republican Caucus will meet February 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Courthouse to elect county officers. Merlin Metaler serves as chairman. District events include a Fort Atkins caucus April 5 and Madison resolutions sessions April 3, with state conven tion May 8 in La Crosse. The Green County publicity committee ordered 50 000 color brochures to promote tourism. Plans include distribution through Wisconsin Department of Tourism outlets and the Chicago information center. Mrs. Lois Bolender Clark Dies at 52 in Monroe

Mrs. Lois Elizabeth Bolender Clark, 52, wife of Monroe shoe store owner Donald J. Clark, died at 6:15 am at home. Born June 26, 1912, in Monroe, she had suffered a respiratory condition for years. She leaves her husband and four sons in various religious and educational settings, a brother, and her parents. Services Thursday at St. Victor's Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Clarence Martin 75 dies after long illness

Clarence Martin 75 a retired well driller died at 2 a.m. yesterday at his home 2711 8th Ave after a prolonged illness. He was a Monroe resident since 1945 born May 5 1889 in Dell Prairie Township Adams County Wisconsin son of Charles and Elizabeth Carter Martin. He married Olive Mason in Wisconsin Dells on Nov 11 1911. Surviving are six children and 34 grandchildren a sister and several in laws. Services will be 930 a.m. Wednesday at Stnessy Funeral Home with Rev Wesley Burns officiating graveside 130 p.m. Wednesday at Grove Cemetery Wisconsin Dells.

Son Charged in Theft of $60,000 from Father

Milwaukee police sought 23 year old Michael C. Malkovich after his father Michael N. reported $60,000 missing from a metal case in a bedroom closet. Malkovich, unemployed since losing a dock job, was charged with burglary after admitting he planned to invest the money for retirement and had not gone to a bank.

Johnson orders retaliatory air raids across 17th Parallel

South Viet Nam report says U S and South Vietnamese air units hit North Vietnamese camps in a coordinated strike after a Viet Cong mortar attack. Brig Gen Nguyen Cao Ky led 30 planes against targets, reporting heavy ground casualties. Ky sustained a shrapnel wound, one U S jet was hit, and Saigon closed the American children’s school as dependents prepared to leave.

Heart Workers Plan Residential Campaign in Monroe
