Secretary of Defense Wilson and Admiral Radford warn the armed forces lose many trained personnel to private industry. They urge selective pay raises to retain officers and enlisted personnel, noting one million men will be eligible for release next year.
Funeral services were held in Chicago for Anton C Negri 66 a former county official who helped negotiate the 1944 45 purchase of the old Deaconess hospital for a cereal packaging plant He died after a long illness and is survived by his widow three sons and two grandchildren His career included hotel management and ownership of the General Dairy and Food Products Co Services were at St Pauls Evangelical Reformed Church.
Hollywood singer Bob Crosby II brother of Bing is hospitalized at St Vincent's with lobar pneumonia. CBS spokesman said his temperature rose to 104 degrees Saturday. He remained in hospital and was expected to stay another week or 10 days as of Sunday.
Obituary notes Rev Morley R. Hartley former pastor of the First Universalist church died at his Lan sing Michigan home where he served as pastor from 1941 to 1943. Surviving are his wife and three sons Ralph Richard and Clayton two live in California. He was Canada born educated at McMaster University Rochester Theological Seminary and attended the University of Chicago. His wife Annie Darcy is a Canada native and McMaster alumna. He also served as a Universalist pastor in Clinton NL for six years and was a missionary in India.
A 16 year old boy died after being shot while preparing for a hunting trip. Roland Keilhofer of Glidden died at a Park Falls hospital. Herbert Beyer, 27, of Sheboygan, perished when a country road crash rolled the family auto. Alex Mattson, 68, and Henry Santo, 49, were found dead in a flaming cabin. Wilma McLaughlin, 36, killed in a Calument Fond du Lac line collision. Charles Ambler, 46, of Boscobel, crushed by a felled tree. Vladimir Macik Jr., 26, of Kenosha, died in a head on crash on Highway 50 near Kenosha. Police cited passing attempts as a factor. three others injured in the same crash.
Amy Cary 87 longtime teacher died this morning in Green County hospital from age-related causes after being found on the floor at her home on 22nd Street two days earlier. Services pending at Stuessy funeral home. Cousin Leo Riggles of Rockford is arriving to arrange affairs. born October 19 1867 in Albany Township to Absolon and Mary Mears Cary. Monroe high school graduate. Civil War veteran father.

Nyman age 76 of 1011 20th avenue Monroe died at 6 30 this morning at his home He was born in Doelitz Germany June 10 1879 and came to the United States at one year old He married Nora Barnie in Juda Nov 29 1906 The couple farmed in Jefferson Township then moved to Monroe in January 1939 Survivors include his wife two sons Ralph Monroe and LaVerne on the Nyman farm a daughter Mrs Alvin Schwerin Janesville three brothers Herman Ortonville Minn John and Ben A Monroe a sister Mrs Norman King Sharon nine grandchildren One grandson Ale Laverne Paul Nyman Jr is stationed in Tripoli Africa Services Wednesday at 130 p m in Shriner Neushwander funeral home with Rev W L King Juda officiating Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
Sheriff Samuel F. Humbel announced two youths admitted a series of break ins in Monroe Green and Lafayette Counties. The 15 year old from Monroe and a 16 year old Monticello boy were to appear in juvenile court this afternoon after being questioned by Iowa County authorities and child welfare worker John O Neill.

Morris Heath, 81, Route 4, died at 4 15 p m yesterday in St. Clare hospital after being brought there Jan 20 as a medical patient. He had fallen at his daughter’s home, where he lived for 15 years. Two U S Air Force pilots recount a five minute dogfight 10 miles off the North Korean coast in which they shot down two MiG-15s. They describe no damage to American planes and identify no markings on the enemy craft.
Mrs. Anna L. Fahr 93 longtime Orangeville resident died after a brief illness at her daughter’s home. Born Aug 25 1861 in Center County Pa she married Benjamin Fahr in 1881. Survived by three daughters two brothers a sister three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. U S Navy carrier planes were fired on by Communist antiaircraft guns as 30 000 Nationalist soldiers and civilians were evacuated from the Tachens north of Formosa. Marines ashore aided the operation while aerial and mine-sweeping efforts continued. Nationalist and U S forces prepared for a multi‑day withdrawal amid Chinese Red threats and Peiping radio warnings.
