Wisconsin Farmers Face Bitter Winter Water Shortage

In Wausau Wisconsin drought hit farms as wells run dry across the north and northwest. Alfred King of Marathon County drilled 202 feet for a new well after his long dry spell. Johnson Creek on his land is dry for the first time in 60 years. Feed supplies shrink and marsh weeds are used for cow bedding as farmers consider selling herds. 150 wells already dried up in the county with more trouble foreseen this month.

Monroe district to dismiss early for teacher meetings

All Monroe schools will dismiss one hour early on Tuesday to allow teachers to attend K-12 subject area meetings coordinating kindergarten through 12th grade curriculums. Kindergarten registration runs next week at the District Offices 1510 13th St from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

No major flooding expected as Northeast thaw begins

Experts say thawing snow in the Northeast should not cause major floods unless rapid warming and heavy rain occur. Rivers may rise to flood stages but remain within manageable levels, with built in buffers from the Army Corps of Engineers and low water in the Ohio River area.
