Albany Board Set to Pick Police Chief and Discuss Sewage Bond
The Albany Village Board will meet Monday Feb 24 to select a new police chief and review information on funding a sewage disposal project. Clark Oil wrecks Ninth Street duplex for new Ed's Super 100 Station
A brick duplex at 1707 9th Street was demolished by a wrecking crew for Clark Oil and Refinery Corp to build the Ed's Super 100 Station at the corner of 9th Street and 17th Avenue. Edwin C. Goecks, Clark Oil dealer and station manager, said construction will begin soon with Bruni Miller of Monroe as contractor and a storage building to follow. The project will replace the existing structure in spring, with pumps moved and new tanks installed to improve drive space for east or west exit. The Clark station at that corner has operated since 1951. Goecks, his wife Barbara Rahorn, and their three daughters are named. residents of the demolished units are listed.

The Monroe City Council announced that Mr. A. Charles Goepfert and his wife have been retained as resident managers and maintenance staff for the low rent elderly housing project. They will reside on site and oversee day to day operations as occupancy changes are handled, according to Glenn Schreier, executive director of the housing authority.

Clothing Destroyed In Closet Of Home Fire
Fire destroyed clothing in an upstairs closet at the home of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Oelke on Mt 23rd Ave Monroe. The Monroe Volunteer Firemen arrived quickly and kept the blaze to the closet with about 20 minutes on scene. Oelke is the junior high school principal.

Thelma Ritter Dies After Long Film Career in Queens
Thelma Ritter, raspy voiced character actress, dies at 65 in Queens General Hospital after a heart attack at home January 27. A Brooklyn native, she began acting at eight, landed in Miracle on 34th Street and earned four straight Best Supporting Actress nominations. She later co starred on Broadway in New Girl in Town and won an Antoinette Perry Award with Gwen Verdon. Ritter also filled roles in All About Eve, The Mating Game, Pickup on South Street, Titanic, and A Hole in the Head, with extensive radio and TV work. She is survived by her husband Joseph Moran and two children Joseph Anthony and Monica Ann.

Spring Caucus Set for Feb 26 in New Glarus
At the regular village board meeting the Spring Caucus was scheduled for 8 p m on Wednesday February 26 with nominations for two year terms for five officials. Terms expiring include president Waldo Freitag trustees Ivan Rhyner David Hodgson Palmer Duerst and municipal justice Jacob Bruni. A new Code of Ordinances was enacted as Special Ordinance No 1 and will be available for public examination at Village Hall for two weeks starting February 12. The Police Committee is to seek applicants for a full time police officer with applications directed to Will Clerk Mrs Richard Wainwright or committee members Hodgson Duerst and Hofer.
