Sheriff Probes Two Burglaries in Browntown and South Wayne
Green and Lafayette County officers probed two lumber yard burglaries early today. Chapman Lumber Co in South Wayne lost 200 dollars in cash and a demolished safe valued at 1,000 dollars at Browntown. Loot included pocket knives and shotgun shells. Game-like items were found, with 12 butcher knives embedded in the South Wayne floor. Evidence includes footprints and tire tracks, time set near 3:30 a.m. Local officials, including Sheriff Humbel and undersheriff Howe, investigated alongside Lafayette County Sheriff Lawrence James.

A Circuit Court jury deliberated three hours to convict them for the fatal beating outside an East Dubuque tavern on August 8. No sentencing date set.

Henry Staver Succumbs at 67 After Surgery and Illness
Henry W. Staver 67 of 101 E 11th Street died at 6 p m last night in St. Clare hospital where he had been since January 3 as a medical patient and underwent leg amputation surgery January 10. He was born October 8 1887 in Clarno Township son of Frank and Ida Priewe Staver. He married Martha Kiel December 12 191? in Freeport. The couple farmed in Clarno Township until 1944 then moved to Monroe. He helped found and led the Staver Cheese Co operative and was active in cheese trucking. Surviving are his wife three daughters and 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services Sunday at 2 p m in Shriner Neushwander funeral home with Rev John C Purdy officiating. Burial in Greenwood cemetery.
