Wreck of Chippewa Hiawatha Kills One Injures Many
A speeding Chippewa Hiawatha passenger train derailed four miles north of Saukville after a rail broke yesterday. One man, E. J. Synott of Rib Lake, was killed and more than 65 injured. Sixty hospitalizations and many treated and released followed at St. Alphonsus in Port Washington and nearby facilities. The train from Ontonagon, Mich. to Milwaukee left only the engine and baggage car upright. Passengers aided each other as crews and local responders rushed to aid victims.

Buehler Seeks Sixth Term as Mayor Despite Resignation
Mayor Frank A. Buehler announced his intention to run for a sixth mayoral term in April. He will resign as first assistant chief of the Monroe volunteer fire department to reduce duties while staying a fire department member. Buehler joined the fire service in 1908 and has served as alderman since 1931, becoming mayor in 1940 and currently completing his fifth term. Maurice R. Connors opposed him in 1948, and Rodney O. Kittelsen announced a meeting of the police and fire commission after receiving the resignation.

Peterson Delays Decision on Race for State Supreme Court
Monroe attorney Marshall L. Peterson arrived in Madison for last minute talks on whether to file nomination papers for the state supreme court election. The filing deadline was 5 p m today. Brodhead Man Slugged and Robbed in Service Station
Illinois and Wisconsin police hunted a well dressed motorist who slugged a Brodhead station operator and robbed him of about $100 at 7 this morning. Ray Timm 38 runs the station with his brother Lyle after the robber, in a late model car, forced entry and fled south on First Center avenue toward highway 81. The attacker, about five feet ten, 175 pounds, struck Timm and took the cash from the register. The Feb 24 incident follows another in Brodhead a week earlier. Authorities from Green, Rock, Stephenson and Winnebago counties joined the hunt.
