State Troopers Return to Selma on Standby Duty
In Selma Alabama state troopers under Col Al Lingo returned to standby status amid a fresh march plan led by Dr Martin Luther King Jr as Negroes prepare to demonstrate for voting rights. About 200 gathered in a church near the Perry County Courthouse in Marion while the Selma courthouse remained quiet and the registration office opened in a second floor courtroom. A federal court order restricting registration to 100 daily applicants was modified to allow more voters to line up peacefully without deputies interfering. More than 50 prospective voters and civil rights workers, some from out of state, were jailed last week after attempting to join the line after the allotted places were filled.

He’ll Never Smile Again Nathan Wirth Stricken
Nathan Paul Wirth five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Wirth Route 1 Juda died unexpectedly at St. Clare hospital around midnight Saturday. Mercury poisoning and a severe hand infection were factors but autopsy showed no clear cause. He had shown improvement and was active the day before. Nathan was one of 10 children, born August 16 1959 in Monroe. Surviving are his parents and siblings. Turn to No. 2, Back Page.
