OPA experts say ending hostilities by Truman would not remove price and rationing duties. Abolition of sugar rationing rent control or price controls would require a specific act by the president or Congress.
Cheese prices fell about five cents per pound in Monroe retail shops with specific cuts including six cents on cheddar and fifteen cents on brick while Swiss held steady. Milk prices were unchanged locally though Rockford plans a one cent per quart drop. butter remains in the low 80s and eggs and poultry show modest shifts.

He told friends during a Miami fishing trip that he would run if urged by the country, amid party speculation and mixed reactions to Dewey Taft and Truman. Senate Democrats on the special campaign investigating committee plan to report no grounds to bar Theodore Bilbo from his senate seat. Chairman Ellender D La said the group will file a majority report to the Senate when it convenes Friday after a 90 minute meeting.
This morning the Albert Wyss car at 1817 12th street suffered about 50 dollars in damage after colliding with Kenneth Loyd Smith at the 1600 block of 12th street while Wyss’s car was being pushed by his son in law Chester Stubbe visiting from El Monte California. Light damage to both cars, no injuries. A separate collision on yesterday at 13th street and 16th avenue involved John Tschanz of Monroe and Floyd W. Asmus of Monroe route 5, caused by slippery road conditions and a vehicle failing to turn.

J F Zinser ends a 38 year grocery career as Purcell brothers Bernard William and Gerald take over the store on Thursday. The Purcells plan a grand opening in two weeks after moving the business to 1516 11th Street and bringing experience from Monroes grocering scene.
Richard Anderson of Brodhead, a World War II veteran, is named by Judge Harold J. Lamboley to fill the Green County veterans service commission seat vacated by H. V. Hartman whose 28 years of service ended yesterday. Anderson will serve a three year term. The three member panel also includes John D. German Sr. of Monroe and Peter Hefty of New Glarus.
The Monroe Clinic announces Dr Paul W Snowden as radiologist for X ray and radium diagnosis and treatment. A Chicago Presbyterian Hospital veteran, he is Oklahoma born and trained at Illinois and Northwestern prior to medical practice in Illinois. The Snowdens reside at 914 15th Avenue.
Washington officials say 1946 potato crop surpluses will lead to dumping millions of bushels frozen or rotten under government orders in the coming weeks. The department must meet a 90 percent parity obligation despite a 100 million bushel excess over projections, driving the expected loss to about 80 million dollars.
Governor Goodland signed extradition papers for Russell G. Pfeifer arrested in Corona California last week on embezzling 11306 from the Wisconsin motor vehicle department while serving as cashier. Dane County Sheriff John Arnold planned to depart Madison to serve papers. Pfeifer faces trial in superior court if California approves. Pfeifer, employed over 20 years, resigned in 1945 and moved to California. budget bureau audit cited four counts of maladministration in office.

A basement fire at 1203 12th Street caused slight damage estimated 25 to 35 dollars in a two family dwelling. Smoke climbed to the attic and a general alarm brought Monroe fire department crews out in cold weather. Occupants Arlie G. Mitchell and Josef J Berkert were affected by smoke. Chief Kundert and volunteer Benkert, plus nearby firefighter Greub, were surprised by the blaze.

Conrad G. Wiesler, 61, president of the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Reedsburg, died yesterday after a short illness. He led the bank and served the community in Wisconsin. Funeral arrangements are pending.
