Norfolk, Va. A middle aged spinster, Minnie C. Mangum, 52, free on 25000 bail as auditors probe a possible one million dollar shortage at Commonwealth Building and Loan Association. Mangum, assistant secretary treasurer for 28 years, admitted stealing funds amid a growing audit of larcenies totaling about 900000 over five years. Internal controls absent, authorities say. Continuous audit ongoing with Feb. 7 continuance requested.

Minor Fire Extinguished Before Firemen Arrive
A small gas furnace leaked gasoline and caught fire at 1140 Uth Street. Firemen were summoned at 10:45 a.m. A worker moved the furnace from a window and extinguished the blaze before responders arrived. The house, recently bought by Ray Heinzelman, is being remodeled into two apartments.

Jacob Zwickey of New Glarus Dies at 86
Jacob Zwickey 86 of New Glarus died at 12 30 a m in the home of his daughter Mrs Arthur Christian Belleville after months of illness. Born March 28 1869 he was a son of Jacob and Magdalena Baumgartner Zwickey and married to Barbara Kunder. He lived east of New Glarus before 1918 when he moved to the village. He was a member of the Swiss Evangelical and Reformed church. He leaves two daughters Mrs Christian and Mrs J P Klassy of New Glarus a son Willis Mundelien II a brother Fred Aren six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His wife a daughter Alice and five brothers preceded him in death. Services Monday 2 pm in the Swiss church at New Glarus Rev Lynn F B Tschudy officiating Burial in church cemetery. Friends may call at Zentner funeral home from Saturday night until Monday noon.
