Price Supports To Remain Same Freeman Looks To '69 Program
Washington Secretary of Agriculture Orville Freeman announced that federal price support levels for dairy farmers will be continued next year at current rates. Manufacturing milk support for the year starting April 1 will be 4.29 per hundredweight, about 87 percent of parity. Minimum bottling milk prices stay at current levels with a 20 cent temporary boost, and the April 1968 expiration for bottling milk is removed, making minimum prices per marketing order permanent. Freeman stressed dairy income stability to prevent production declines and ensure adequate milk supply, noting potential 35 to 30 cent drops if the programs expired. Government purchases of dairy products have fallen versus last year. Details on CC C purchases to implement the next price support cycle will follow.
