Frank S. Conrad Dies After Illness at 80

Frank S. Conrad 80 of 1114 14th Avenue died Sunday at 2 45 a m in St Clare hospital after a two year illness. He retired in 1939 as chief engineer for Blumer Brewing Corp and helped shift the plant from steam to electric power. Six people lost their lives in Wisconsin during a three day Christmas holiday, including three in a head on crash on Highway 14 near Arena during a rain snow storm. Sailor Dies in Street Fight Over Traffic Stop

A New York sailor on Christmas leave was killed in a street fight with an off-duty policeman. James Nicolli, 22, a Navy baker aboard the USS Glennon at Newport, was shot in the stomach by Patrolman Sidney Eisenberg, 28, after allegedly seizing the officer's revolver during a second attack.

Christmas Holiday Toll Shatters Yuletide Record

The national holiday toll reached 499 with 379 traffic fatalities and 62 fire deaths plus 58 other mishaps. A deadly blaze in Parkin Arkansas killed 12 from two families in a tenant farmhouse kitchen sparked by a wood stove and kerosene.
