Fire destroys Chet Noble home near Gratiot
A total loss blaze at the Chet Noble residence near the junction of Highway 11 and County Trunk KK, two miles east of Gratiot, destroyed furniture and clothing. Firefighters from Gratiot, with help from South Wayne and Wiota, arrived about 2:30 PM, finding flames from the upper area and a roof fire. Noble, a bachelor employed in Freeport, was not home. he had moved in six weeks earlier, and another Gratiot residence remains. The prior owners included Joseph Wand and Frank Boelk. the house is now owned by Richard Sebern of Emmetsburg, Ia. The fire is believed caused by electrical wiring.

Charles E. Krueger 87 Dies Christmas Day
Well known retired farmer Charles E. Krueger age 87 of 1717 15th St died at noon Christmas Day in St. Clare Hospital after hospital admission on December 23. He was born February 12, 1880 in Monroe Township and lived on farms in the area before moving to his current home 21 years ago. He and Dorothea Asmus married November 25, 1902 and observed their 65th anniversary last month. He served in numerous community roles including church official board member and Sunday school class leader. He chaired agricultural displays at the Green County Fair for 16 years and held roles on local school boards and the Swiss Cheese Factory. Surviving are his widow and three daughters.
