Chester C. Ellis 49 of Rochelle Ill. and Monroe native dies during holiday visit in Sarasota Fla. He was a noted athletic coach in the Northern Illinois Conference with earlier Rochelle service from 1930–34 and 1943–49. He leaves a widow daughter Virginia and son Stephen. Services Sunday at Rochelle Methodist church. Burial Lawnridge cemetery.
Oscar M. Erickson 84 of Monroe died yesterday at 2 a m in Masshardt convalescent home from old age complications after a hip fracture in April 1950. Born July 9 1868 in Wiota Township he was the son of Martin and Olena Erickson. He married Hilda Johanna Paulson November 24 1893 in Jordan Township. He leaves sons Clarence and Morgan four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. wife predeceased him March 20 1949. Funeral arrangements: Shriner Neushwander funeral home will take the body to East Wiota church for 2 p m services conducted by Rev. J A Nestingen followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Andrew Meythaler 79 of Spring Valley Township near Brodhead died after a long illness at his farm home. He was born January 25 1873 in Adams Township Green County and worked as a mason before farming in Magnolia and Spring Valley Townships. Survived by widow two sons Ralph and Clair one daughter Mrs Arthur Houghton seven grandchildren seven great grandchildren and siblings. Funeral Sunday 2 p m at Newcomer funeral home Brodhead with Rev Gene Carter officiating and Knights of Pythias assisting burial in Brodhead Greenwood cemetery.
In Chickasaw Alabama a 45 mm tank buster shell exploded during a neighborhood Christmas gathering injuring four people. Pfc James W McCrory of Lejeune had brought the shell home and dropped it, causing a blast that ripped the porch and living room, with 16 year old Mildred Childres losing both legs and Mrs Verbile McCrory badly injured. Police confirm the incident as a tragic accident rooted in the homecoming celebration.
The Associated Press reports seven Wisconsin deaths from holiday accidents. Victims include Harry Beels of Chili, an unidentified man near Racine, Fred Kramer of Racine, Hattie Gamm of Madison, Benjamin Worwick of Preble, Airman John Call of Osseo, and Walter Williams of East Troy. The nationwide toll exceeds 300 with 251 auto deaths and 23 in fires.
William F. Hintzman 66 a Green County native and Madison real estate dealer for 33 years died Tuesday morning in Pasadena California while visiting his children. Services in Madison and Monroe with burial at Mt Vernon Juda. He leaves wife Edith four children in California a brother half siblings and several relatives.

Los Angeles police hunt a second grandma bandit after a teller could not identify Ethel Arata 52 as the robber who struck Arcadia on Christmas Eve. A different gray haired woman previously robbed Union Bank and Trust Co Nov 12 taking 2600 dollars. Police say Arata admitted to Oct 17 California Bank and Nov gring a total of 1469 dollars. Arcadia Bank manager William Lloyd seized Arata after teller Lorene McGehee refused to hand over cash.
West Berlin police officer Herbert Bauer, 28, was shot dead in the French sector on Christmas Day. French authorities accuse three Russian soldiers of the killing and demand punishment. The Soviet side counters that West Berlin police attempted to kidnap three Soviet border guards and opened fire during the incident.
President Truman pardons former Kentucky Democrat Andrew J May who served nine months in prison for bribery related to munition contracts and restores his full citizenship. Also pardons former New Jersey Republican J Parnell Thomas who served time for payroll padding after leading the Un American Activities Committee.
An icy blast kept temperatures in the 20s with no relief predicted for the weekend. The weatherman warned of colder nights and days with highs near 25 today and little above 20 tomorrow.
Peter Schramm aged 80 collapsed on a Shadyside street Christmas night and died of a heart attack. Charles Boyd aged 32 rushed to aid him and also suffered a heart attack and died.

Roger Lee remains unconscious in a precarious state. Rodney Dee has the better chance to live. Parents Royt and (name unclear) Brodie of Moline visited Christmas Day in the Illinois Neuropsychiatric Hospital. they have four other children.
John Foster Dulles, soon to be secretary of state, said Stalin could rest assured that any concrete peace proposals from the Soviet leader would be seriously and sympathetically received by the incoming administration. He noted diplomatic channels remain available and tied to UN and embassies. Stalin urged meeting and said Russia is interested in ending Korea, while blaming Western cold war actions for tension. Eisenhower, already in New York, has prior experience dealing with Soviet officials in Europe during WWII.
An Iranian Airways jet crashed near Tehran Airport in dense fog killing 23 people including four Americans. Only two survived as the inbound Isfahan flight failed to land, bounced, and broke apart in an open field after circling for landing. Investigators suspect pilot miscalculated altitude. The American dead include Cecile Ann Demoisy, Thomas Rispoli, and Blakemore and his wife.
