Murder Victim Known in County Services Monday For Lyle Larson
Robert W. Phillips 28 of Rockford is jailed in McHenry County on murder charges in the death of Lyle Larson 44, husband of former Jeanette Zweifel of New Glarus. Larson, a Harvard grocer, was killed after a failed robbery near his store. Phillips allegedly pistol whipped and shot Larson and later claimed to solve two Rockford robberies. Larson’s family and friends in Harvard and New Glarus await proceedings as Phillips faces grand jury January 9. Services for Larson were set for Harvard Methodist Church with burial in New Orleans.

Christmas Home Visit Brings Joy For Polio Patient
Two county women, Mrs Howard Keehn of Brooklyn and Mrs Roy Stephens of Brodhead, will spend a Christmas at home from St. Clare hospital after polio. Keehn, stricken in September, can move only an arm and her head but plans a brief visit with her children and family before returning to hospital. Stephens went home yesterday for a permanent recovery as she steps toward a new phase with her family.

Two truck drivers died after a Highway 12 crash in freezing mist. Robert Smith, 27, of Guilford Missouri, was killed at the scene and Leon Mayerhofer, 39, of Lake Geneva, died later at Fort Atkinson hospital.

Christmas Stocking project distributes 65 food boxes
The Christmas Stocking group and Junior Chamber of Commerce finished packing 65 food boxes for Monroe families yesterday at the First National Bank Annex. Co-chairs Mrs. Alvin Kubly and Mrs. Allie Holtshopple said the boxes will provide Christmas dinner for 238 people, including 31 for families with children and 34 for older couples, containing ham, vegetables, bread, butter, eggs, jellO, peanut butter, pancake mix, syrup, sugar, soap, and fruit.
