City Hotel Blaze Stopped by Firemen and Insulation
A City Hotel fire Sunday afternoon was contained by Monroe volunteer firemen aided by 4 inch roof insulation halting the blaze before it spread. Damage was about 1000 dollars to the building plus 300 in clothing losses. Fire started from a second floor closet with Steffen belongings and was attributed to spontaneous combustion.

Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 p m at Newcomer funeral home with Rev J W Zimmerman, burial in Greenwood cemetery with military rites. Born April 18 1873 in Decatur township he married Mary E Fowler on January 15 1907 and they lived in the Brodhead area. A Spanish American War veteran he left to the USWV. Surviving are his wife a daughter Mrs Woodrow Korbit Beloit a son August Brodhead and a sister Mrs Emil Scheberle Brodhead.
