De Gaulle Wins Re election in French runoff

President Charles de Gaulle won a seven year term with 55.18 percent of the vote in a runoff against Francois Mitterrand. turnout reached about 84 percent as the 75 year old leader prepares to begin his new term January 8 with key issues including European Common Market negotiations.

Mail Pouch Breaks but Aker Adams Keep Viet Nam Mail Moving

In Saigon's aerial mail terminal Capt Gerald Aker and M. Sgt James Adams oversee about 270000 pounds of mail daily. They ensure no letter or parcel stays longer than 24 hours and tackle issues like broken glass jars and fruit damage while a mixed staff handles 17 U.S. and 25 Vietnamese workers.

Parachuting Santa Struck by Power Line in Dublin

Kenneth Conway 22 and companion Anthony Coyne 24 of Dublin were in a Christmas toy distribution when Conway's parachute tangled with a 10,000 volt line. Conway was knocked unconscious and hurled 27 feet to the ground, escaping with burns and a broken arm. Coyne narrowly avoided the line, landing in a nearby field by the Convent of Mercy where 80 orphans awaited the party. Both men are Irish Parachute Club members.

Six Accidents Reported in Green County After Snowfall

Six accidents were logged by Green County Sheriff's deputies as moist snow covered roads last night. Mary Joy Niffenegger of Monroe suffered bruises in a 4:20 p.m incident on Highway 11 west of Monroe in a car driven by Myron L. Niffenegger. Herbert F. Orton Jr. of Monroe struck a tree at 7:55 a.m. on County Trunk K near John Bieri Farm with moderate damage and no injuries. Joy E. Poole of Monroe had heavy left side damage in a 7:40 a.m. run off Highway 11 81 west of Juta with no injuries. Mary E. Stachura of Janesville escaped injuries in a 10:43 p.m. crash six miles south of Highway 11 81 on County Trunk 6 with Fender and top damage. Turn to No. 2.

Hopeful for Recovery Madison Youth 12 Confined to TB Unit

Mickey Beguhn twelve year old son of Mr and Mrs Ted Beguhn Jr of Elk Mound is hospitalized at Morningside sanatorium Madison with tuberculosis of the kidneys. His parents express sorrow yet great hope for his recovery and thank the Wisconsin Anti-Tuberculosis Association for ongoing work and support.

Wisconsin Traffic Toll Near 1000 Mark in Weekend Crashes

The state total neared 1,000 deaths with nine people killed over the weekend. Beloit youths Steven Bonafede and Dennis Porter died when their car hit an overpass abutment near Janesville. Others killed include a pedestrian Andre Shimo in Kenosha, college student Paul Case in Fond du Lac County, and mother Sharon Glaser in Barron County.

Snowball Dance at Lincoln Junior High Dec 29

The annual Snowball Dance will be held December 29 in the Lincoln Junior High gym. It runs 8:30 p.m. to midnight with a Winter Twilight theme. Tickets are sold at the high school through Wednesday, then at the door. band from Ft. Atkinson will provide music. queen and court will be crowned.

4 H Leaders Are Installed in Wisconsin County

4 H leaders were installed at a banquet in the High School M Room as University of Wisconsin Chancellor Donald McNeil outlined a merged extension service plan. He pledged continued county agent work and new university services within five years addressing economic development health youth agriculture production and conservation. Officers honored for long service included Mrs Ben Zimmerli Mrs Harvey Mauerman and Mrs Paul Hollis. LBJ welcomed Pope Paul VI’s call for peace in Viet Nam.
