East German beauty Irmgrad Margarethe Schmidt, 25, faced three charges in Berlin for allegedly delivering the U S Army Order of Battle to the Russians. Frederick C. Miller 48 prominent Milwaukee brewer civic leader and sports figure dies after a Winnipeg bound hunting trip crash. His son Frederick Jr. 20 also perishes with pilots Joseph Laird 39 and Paul Laird 34. Miller led Miller Brewing Co and backed Milwaukee Braves and Packers. Funeral services loom Monday across Milwaukee and Wauwatosa.
Frank E. Tree, 91, longtime president of South Wayne Bank, died at 2:30 a.m. in St. Clare hospital after being admitted yesterday. Born April 4, 1863 on a farm in Wiota Township, he served as bank president since 1907 and held numerous local offices. He leaves a sister Amy Tree, daughter Mrs Charles Rice of Vineland New Jersey, and son Orville T. Tree of San Gabriel California, with services set for Tuesday at the South Wayne Methodist Church. Burial in Argyle.
Four college students were killed and a fifth seriously injured in a late night automobile truck crash four miles west of Chrisman Illinois. The victims were en route home for Christmas from Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery Kirksville Missouri.
President Eisenhower ordered a nationwide program under the watershed protection and flood prevention act of 1954. The Department of Agriculture will provide technical and financial help to organized farmer groups in small watersheds facing floods drought and erosion. Local initiative and state cooperation are emphasized to carry out improvements.
