Ford settlement boosts November personal income in the United States

The Ford strike settlement helped lift personal income to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1 417.8 billion in November, a 1.1 percent rise from October. Per capita income reached 6 573, up 8.3 percent from a year earlier as inflation ran about 5 percent.

Derailment injures 46 aboard Amtrak near Omaha

A Chicago bound Amtrak Zephyr plunged 35 feet down an embankment just before 3 a.m. injuring at least 46 with no fatalities. The 111 car train had about 180 aboard and two sleeping cars and multiple coaches toppled. Passengers escaped via windows with sledgehammers. Greg J. Gee was the most seriously hurt and listed in serious condition.

Farmers receive three cents on dollar in grain exchange loss

Madison reports farmers and banks in the Evansville Farmers Grain Exchange failure received checks of 3 cents on losses. The $63,489 total goes to 100 farmers and two banks from state bond proceeds held by the Agriculture Department. Ben Green, exchange operator, died November 15 after pleading guilty to fraud.
