In Chatham England a flood gate collapse during overhaul of the British submarine Talent sent a wall of water into the Royal Navy drydock. Nearly a hundred workers were nearby having tea when the wave struck, driving the submarine onto a mudbank in the Medway. A fourth man died from injuries sustained in the incident.

Officials Declare S-D Day Success

Green County and Monroe completed the 24 hours of S-D Day with no fatal accidents and a clean county record. A minor city collision at 7th street and 22nd avenue marred the tally. victims were George H. Schwenk and Walter R. Brandle of Monroe. Pauly Cheese Co will relocate Swiss cutting and packaging to a new 100 by 100 foot brick and steel building north of the Illinois Central tracks in Monroe. The project, to be built by Rudolph P. Monroe Boy 8 Hurt in Traffic Mishap

An eight year old Monroe youth Elmer Gary Phillips was injured when he slipped beneath a moving truck at 8 46 this morning near the South school at the intersection of 20th street and 13th avenue. He was taken to St. Clare hospital in satisfactory condition. The truck was driven by Richard Garwell and the injury involved both bones in his left arm.

President To Light Yule Tree Tomorrow

Argyle’s oldest resident Mrs Kate Bohn dies at 99

Mrs Kate Bohn of Argyle died at 3 50 am in the Argyle nursing home at age 99 with pneumonia as the believed cause. Born in 1855 in Norway she arrived in 1882 changing her name from Kjerste Hansdatter Vallund. She married Sever Bohn in 1910. he died in 1919. Survived by brother Christian Valland of Butte Montana and a church community. Services set for Saturday at 2 pm at Argyle Lutheran Church with Rev A P Anderson officiating. Burial in Woodlawn cemetery. Burial arrangements with Erickson funeral home.

Burglars Loot Home On Eve of Funeral

Milwaukee police report burglars entered the home of 71 year old Mrs. Frank W. Lukes by forcing a milk chute while she attended her husband’s body lying in state at a funeral home. Cash totaling 153 and 100 in checks were stolen. Lukes, a dry goods merchant, died Tuesday.
