In Chatham England a flood gate collapse during overhaul of the British submarine Talent sent a wall of water into the Royal Navy drydock. Nearly a hundred workers were nearby having tea when the wave struck, driving the submarine onto a mudbank in the Medway. A fourth man died from injuries sustained in the incident.
Cairo authorities commuted the death sentence of Ahmed Mohamed Hassenein, a Moslem Brotherhood leader in the provinces, to life imprisonment after a ruling by Egypt's ruling revolution council. The decision follows a Wednesday death sentence on Hassenein for his activities.
The Swiss Colony plans its holiday distribution with over a million pounds of cheese graded since 1952. About 600 workers operate around the clock on Cheese Row to fill orders and ship packages nationwide by Christmas, aided by post office staff and truckers across Los Angeles Cleveland and New York.

St Victor's pupils ending classes early will join the program at 1 p.m. The Pathfinder in color plus nine cartoon films headline the showing at Goetz and Chalet theaters with 1 1 5 p.m. doors and 1 30 p.m. start. Candy treats will be distributed to children on leaving. Directors will prepare the candy sacks Monday evening at the Dearth garage.

Four rural teachers near Galena have gone months without pay as a state law consolidation case hangs in court. Irene Jogerst Olive Welp Ann Cox and Ida Temperly face back wages of roughly 1 000 to 1 400 each as the circuit court judge bracken nears a decision. Some rely on savings annuities or spouses while one teacher continues despite financial strain saying children must have a teacher.
Pauly Cheese Co will relocate Swiss cutting and packaging to a new 100 by 100 foot brick and steel building north of the Illinois Central tracks in Monroe. The project, to be built by Rudolph P. Regez and associates, with leasing by Swift and Co., aims for completion before June 1 next year and will expand operations from Green Bay and earlier sites in Monroe.
An eight year old Monroe youth Elmer Gary Phillips was injured when he slipped beneath a moving truck at 8 46 this morning near the South school at the intersection of 20th street and 13th avenue. He was taken to St. Clare hospital in satisfactory condition. The truck was driven by Richard Garwell and the injury involved both bones in his left arm.
President Eisenhower will light the nation’s Christmas Tree Friday night and address the country by radio and television. Major networks plan to carry his five minute speech as part of a half hour Christmas request for peace starting at 4 p.m. CST.

Mrs Kate Bohn of Argyle died at 3 50 am in the Argyle nursing home at age 99 with pneumonia as the believed cause. Born in 1855 in Norway she arrived in 1882 changing her name from Kjerste Hansdatter Vallund. She married Sever Bohn in 1910. he died in 1919. Survived by brother Christian Valland of Butte Montana and a church community. Services set for Saturday at 2 pm at Argyle Lutheran Church with Rev A P Anderson officiating. Burial in Woodlawn cemetery. Burial arrangements with Erickson funeral home.
Milwaukee police report burglars entered the home of 71 year old Mrs. Frank W. Lukes by forcing a milk chute while she attended her husband’s body lying in state at a funeral home. Cash totaling 153 and 100 in checks were stolen. Lukes, a dry goods merchant, died Tuesday.
Paris reports NATO officials and U S diplomats backing use of atomic weapons to deter Communism and defend Western Europe. The plan hinges on a new NATO military committee report and proposals for a Paris based standing crisis group to grant emergency powers.
Vienna reports that Cardinal Mindszenty, held since 1949, may be released from Hungarian prison but no confirmation exists from Kathpress Vatican or other sources. The claim lacks official verification.
