Wisconsin hunters top deer kill in nine day gun season

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reports 70,426 deer were killed in last month's nine day gun season, down from 72,844 in the previous identical season. The report also notes 186 black bears were taken during the hunt.

Rain and wind batter Wisconsin as storm nears

National Weather Service warns of a central storm moving toward southern and eastern Wisconsin with 50 to 60 mph gusts. Rain dominated overnight with two inches in Pewaukee and near two inches around Milwaukee, while fog and soggy grounds worsen basement seepage and lingering drizzle persists.

County Board Wins Bid On Sheriff Cars And Seeks Emergency Aid

The board accepted the lower bid for four sheriff vehicles with Rambler of Monroe at 6004.30 and Alphorn Ford 8629 for the two sedans and two wagons. It also approved applying for 522 monthly federal funding under the Emergency Employment Act to cover Albany village coordinator salary. A request from Monroe to address incinerator and landfill issues was referred to the Highways and Zoning Committee, noting a 150000 repair and 750000 for a new incinerator and Solid Waste Management Plan under a new law.

Civic leader Orville Evans dies at 68 in Monroe

Orville R Evans Sr a Monroe civic leader and former mayor died at 1 52 am at Pleasant View Nursing Home after an extended illness He served as 1st vice chairman of the Green County Board of Supervisors and held multiple civic roles including leader of the Green County Historical Society and Monroe Chamber of Commerce He was born March 17 1908 in Menauqua Illinois and owned O R Evans Publishing Co with his wife Amy He leaves wife two sons two daughters 17 grandchildren and siblings Funeral services will be held Friday at the United Methodist Church with Masonic rites at 7 30 pm
