Wisconsin Moves to Random Vehicle Inspections
The Wisconsin Legislature approved a compromise highway safety plan calling for statewide random vehicle inspections and a 75 patrol increase. A pilot program will test voluntary checks in rural and urban areas with private garages in the Senate version and state inspectors in the Assembly plan. The measure, set to take effect July 1, 1968, awaits final drafting.

Christmas Cheer Helps Monroe Aged With Cookies And Gifts
A Monroe Christmas Cheer program delivered 127 dozen homemade cookies to ill and confined seniors. The effort by the Woman’s Club of Monroe’s Christmas Stocking committee, led by Mrs. James Forbes and chaired this year by Mrs. Edmund C. Hamilton, filled packages with two apples two oranges candy Fritos and a one pound tin of cookies. Special gifts were given to four aged residents with no one else to remember them this season.

Police report says vandals damaged outdoor Christmas tree lights in two areas last night. Lights were torn down in the 1700 block of 21st Ave and the 2000 block of 14th St between 7 and 9 p.m. No injuries noted and investigation underway.

Concert to feature Yale Band and Monroe chorus
The Cadet Band and Monroe Junior High School Chorus join for a Christmas Concert in the auditorium Tuesday December 19 at 8 p.m. The 92 member Cadet Band under Allan F. Barnard performs Christmas Oratorio selections and a Latin rhythm piece, with a saxophone quartet and carols. The chorus of about 120 voices directed by Jack Close will perform early music including Tallis Canon and Echo Carol with Mary Zwygart solo, then modern holiday songs and Let There Be Peace on Earth, followed by audience carols.

Smith Defends Land Purchases in State Board Hearing
Madison. Charles Smith Sr. of Wausau veteran conservation commissioner told the Senate Conservation Committee that Assemblyman J Curtis McKay questioned land buying without facts. McKay had criticized the commission, singling out Smith and Arthur MacArthur of Janesville. Both were nominated for the new Natural Resources Board.
