A new five nation Slav alliance was formed at a four day congress in Belgrade. Russia Bulgaria Czechoslovakia Poland and Yugoslavia join to counter anti Soviet propaganda. Belgrade chosen as permanent seat with a five member committee directing cultural economic press and organizational efforts.
The American Farm Bureau Federation pledges to push sharp revisions of labor laws including abolishing the closed shop. It also seeks removal of price controls on sugar and rice, tax relief on corporate dividends, and defense of farm price parity through government loans if needed. Reports of a truce at the Allis-Chalmers plant provoked denials from CIO United Mine Workers officials. Milwaukee Sheriff Hanley cited governor's office saying conditions might change after a few days. UAW CIO leader Buse denied any truce while LaMotte said no such agreement existed. Nine pickets stood at the plant as snow and rain slowed activity.

The 54 nation UN security council committee endorsed general principles for a worldwide arms reduction program and deferred details to the Security Council.
