Cheese Leaders Named to Head Wisconsin Cheese Producers Unit

James E. Ula of Blanchardville was elected president of the Wisconsin Swiss and Limburger Cheese Producers Association at its 23rd annual stockholders meeting. He succeeds John J. Burke, Darlington, who rotates off due to membership rules. Wilbert Strahm Monticello was named vice president. Galli retained as secretary treasurer and manager. George Hillery Seymour was named director. several directors were re elected. The meeting noted one of the smallest attendances due to weather.

Slippery Roads Trigger Multiple Green County Crashes

Dozens of weekend traffic incidents were blamed on slick highways and frost with more snow and freezing rain forecast near the Illinois border. No serious injuries were reported though several cars and trucks skidded or left the road, including collisions on Highways 69 59 and 11 81 near Monroe and Beatrice Nebraska.

Cheese gift lands at Ft. Lewis from Wisconsin

Members of the 32nd Division received nearly a ton of Wisconsin cheese sent by the Wisconsin Cheese Foundation. The shipment included cheddar brick Swiss and provolone with two 200-pound wheels showcased in Tacoma before being trucked to Fort Lewis.

Ohio woman questions Swiss cheese pricing at meeting

Mrs. Alice Grossniklaus of Wilmot Ohio pressed issues on pricing grades and market structure at the 28th annual Wisconsin Swiss and Limburger Cheese Producers Association gathering. She urged unified grading and pricing based on milk marketing trends, and urged cross state cooperation despite distances and industry tensions.

MADISON wapur stenk of Sun Prairie a first announced candidate for the 1962 Republican nomination for governor says he is not interested in bidding for anything but the state's top elective office. In a statement mailed from his Sun Prairie farm home today Renk said he had been told he might seek the lieutenant governor nomination. He noted this suggestion came among hundreds of letters received.

Beloit Man Henry O Daehlin 95 Passes In Nursing Home

Henry O Daehlin 95 longtime Beloit resident formerly of Woodford and Wiota Township died after a brief illness in Wagner nursing home. Born November 16 1866 in Hadeland Norway he immigrated to the United States in 1883 settling in Green County. He married Anna Wang Anderson in 1891 and farmed in Wiota Township until 1942 then moved to Beloit and worked in defense. He served as town chairman and assessor for three terms, was secretary of East Viota Lutheran church for 40 years and a member of Co H Monroe. He helped complete the East Viota centennial history and designed a two ton granite monument in 1936. He authored historical articles about the American flag. Survivors include two sons.

Court verdict upsets Killian conviction ruling

The Supreme Court affirmed John J. Killian’s 1952 Milwaukee false affidavit conviction but ordered a Chicago district court hearing on whether statements to the FBI by informer Michael J. Monroe judge L. Elmer returned Saturday after attending Milwaukee events with judges and lawyers. He joined sessions to acquaint court officers with reorganized procedures and a Milwaukee Bar Association sponsored meeting. John H. Walter also attended a Wednesday court reorganization session.

Wisconsin Governor presses for rapid tax solution in 1961 session

Governor Nelson called a two week deadline for the 1961 Wisconsin Legislature to resolve tax difficulties or pursue a deficit measure. He would address a joint session at 4 p.m. urging quick completion, warning a 3 percent general sales levy could be considered, while vowing not to sign any revised bill on 30P lines.

The same board will propose accepting a $1,110 bid from French's Trucking Co. for the barn and Dobbs property lot. No bid for the house. it will be rented.
