WAVED Demonstration Visits Set at Monroe High School

The Wisconsin audio visual education demonstration WAVED will operate at Monroe High School from Monday December 11 to Friday December 22. It serves as the audio visual center for the district and welcomes teachers administrators board members and the public for visits by scheduled groups or individuals. Special open house events include an area PTA meeting December 11 and a December 20 board and coordinator gathering. Contact William Stuckey for scheduling. WAVED runs daily 9 am to noon and 1 to 4 pm.

Edwin Boss 69 Taken by Death in Monroe

Edwin Boss 69 longtime Monroe resident died of a lingering illness at Green County Hospital at 8 p.m. Friday December 8 after hospitalization since February 21. A former farmer and carpenter born March 7 1898 in Sylvester Township he lived in Monroe since 1930. He married Mabel Morton Sonderegger in 1940. she died in 1955. Survivors include a step son and two step daughters, three brothers and two sisters and nine step grandchildren. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with services December 11 at Shriner Neushwander Funeral Home.

Lost female collie puppy in city pound reported

A small female collie puppy is at the city pound in the Incenerator Building. The dog is described as home less and the report is filed with police for recorded intake.

Farmers Urged To Check Storage Conditions

Farmers are urged to inspect grain stored on farms under Commodity Credit Corporation loans. Elmon G. Ott, ASCS County Committee chairman, notes fewer county inspections mean farmers bear more responsibility for preserving loan grain. If deterioration is found, notify the county office promptly to arrange relocation and minimize losses.

Lighted Creche at Brodhead Glows for Season

The annual lighted creche at South Side Park shines again through Twelfth Night with church support. John Schooff, an industrial arts student, rebuilt the stable and stained it to look aged. Meinenburg Nursery supplied pine trees and straw bales were donated by Mr. and Mrs. William Kethcart. City workers helped erect the platform and light the scene, with help from several residents and two city employees.

Yuletide Melodies Concert At Juda High School

Juda High School bands and chorus present Yuletide Melodies on Sunday December 10 at 2 30 p m under Frank Daniels with Patricia Waterman directing the chorus. Admission is free. The program features Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer Santa Claus is Coming to Town and The Christmas Suite plus Away in a Manger and While Shepherds Watch Their Flocks. The J Cat Band of grade school students also performs under Daniels.

John Berckman, a 1934 graduate from Sparta, wounded in a hunting accident during the deer hunting season on Nov. 22, died today at a La Crosse hospital.

67 Die In Peru Air Crash Near Andes Rim

Searchers pulled burned bodies from jungle near Cerro Carpish after Faucett Airlines DC6 crashed en route from Lima to Tingo Maria killing 67 aboard including four Americans. The flight stopped in Huanuco, with 45 passengers and 6 crew. Identifications were difficult. foreign nationals included an English diplomat and his wife, four French nationals, two Belgians, and five Italians.

Groveton Texas residents learned their town’s only doctor was not a doctor at all. Freddie Brant used the name Reed L. Brown, posing as a psychiatrist and physician with a Texas medical license. Bond set at 25000. Brant jailed in Kaufman County after forgery and perjury charges. Residents recalled his credible demeanor and prescriptions that seemed right.
