City Council Sets 1954 Tax Levy And Budget
Monroe property owners will pay taxes for 1954 at 24 per 1000 of valuation with a total levy of 5.03 for the city, 10.85 for schools, 0.22 for state and 7.90 for county. The council approved a $390,866.50 city budget and outlined 1955 appropriations for general government, protection, health, highways, and other items. Infant Given Good Chance To Survive Despite Small Size
The smallest infant born at St. Clare hospital, Laura Jo Leaver, born November 23 to Clarence and Mrs. Leaver, weighed two pounds at birth and fluctuated to about one pound 15 ounces. Doctors say she has a good chance to survive despite three months premature birth. Two other premature babies, Jeffrey Trumpy and Sandra Ray Reynolds, also remain in incubators, weighing three pounds and three pounds seven ounces respectively.
