Monroe High School band presents a Christmas Salute tonight at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. The event honors Co. B stationed at Ft. Lewis with stage decorations, a three dimensional soldiers backdrop, and a large ribbon tree. Proceeds support new band uniforms and Ken Krattiger’s Europe trip with the USA high school band.

Roy Baumgartner 34 of Orfordville, a former bank employee missing since November 14, was arrested in a Phoenix motel on a Federal Reserve Act violation charge. FBI said an audit found a $70,588 shortage at Farmers and Merchants Bank. His wife vanished Nov 22, leaving two children with relatives.

Alfred Haley aged 20 from Knoxville Tennessee was killed when a pistol held by fellow airman Joseph Lamatstro 20 of Newport Rhode Island discharged at Truax Air Force Base. The two airmen were with the Truax honor guard preparing for a trip to Chicago to participate in events.

Eva Darling 77 of Janesville died yesterday in a Brodhead convalescent home after a three month stay. A former Monroe resident and Albany native, she was a 45 year sales clerk in Janesville before retirement. She was born April 4, 1884, daughter of Scott N. and Mary Haage Darling. Surviving are a brother, a sister, and a nephew, all of Monroe. Graveside rites Monday at Greenwood Cemetery conducted by Rev. Paul H. Olm. Shriner-Neushwander Funeral Home in charge.

In Whiting Indiana FBI agents arrested Joseph J. Chilla Sr.'s sons Benedict and Joseph Jr. for allegedly embezzling at least 1 million dollars from Liberty Savings and Loan, aided by a secret ledger kept since 1939.
