Wisconsin Fire Roars Across 2600 Acres Near Necedah

Firefighters battled two weekend blazes in Juneau County burning 2600 acres. The main fire near Necedah consumed 2000 acres and a house and 16 trailers, while another scorched 600 acres of marshland at New Lisbon. About 35 firefighters remained on duty with nine miles of perimeter, damage estimated at 350000 dollars, and investigations exploring careless smoking or arson as causes.

Cheese Days live broadcast features WGN farm director Orion Samuelson

WGN Radio and TV farm services director Orion Samuelson will host a live Cheese Days segment on Saturday September 18 from the Cheese Days stage. The broadcast begins at 11 45 a m and runs 15 minutes before and after TV filming with his entertainment group and singer. Samuelson, a veteran farm broadcaster, travels nationwide and has long promoted agricultural news and events.

Tax cut extension approved to cover 1977

Senate and House conferees agreed to extend through 1977 the individual tax cuts enacted last year. The package would also make permanent minimum and maximum standard deductions while a broader tax-revision bill progresses. The cuts total about 15 billion dollars a year for individuals and include various simplified rates and deductions.

Two Motorcycle Crashes Injure Local Riders This Weekend

Two separate weekend motorcycle crashes left James L. Atkinson 23 in Albany hospitalized with a broken arm and ankle injuries while Jeffrey H. Bahn 19 of Juda was treated as an outpatient for severe leg lacerations. Atkinson collided with a westbound car driven by Russell L. Teed 25 near New Glarus. Bahn hit a car driven by Glen G. Rosenstiel 63 west of Browntown after the driver turned into a field driveway.

Monroe High announces Sept 16 photo session for yearbook

Freshmen sophomores and juniors will have pictures taken in the morning for the yearbook and school records. Three photo package options are offered: A six dollar twenty five cents yields multiple prints, B four eighty seven, C three fifty. Purchasers should bring payment by photo day, checks payable to National School Studios. Photos may be retaken if needed.

Green County Pork Producers Plan Twilight Meeting and Events

The Green County Pork Producers directors approved the Hog Twilight meeting at the Roger Sullivan farm east of Monroe for Tuesday at 7 30 p m with speaker Hilman Schroeder of Sauk City and a hog judging program. They also discussed the County Barrow Show September 11, FFA pork promotions in October, and entries for the Cheese Day parade with park royalty signs.
