Monroe public schools open with nearly 1500 pupils in the system this year. Superintendent E C Evans estimates 1480 students based on registrations and last year enrollments, with 63 teachers in classrooms. Engaged Milwaukee Couple Drown at Pewaukee Lake
Two weeks before their wedding a Milwaukee couple, Thomas L. Austin 25 and Mary Ellen Hennings 23, drowned at Pewaukee Lake after deciding to fish during a picnic. Austin was found Saturday night and Hennings Sunday. A separate accident at Friess Lake in Washington County left 15 year old Robert Brannan dead after falling from a pier during a outing with friends.

State Doubles Funds For City Street Work
A draft for 21421.79 from the State Highway Commission to the city for local street and road improvements this year was reported by Mayor Brooks J. Dunwiddie. Glen M. Geigel age 58 of 1704 14th street died in St. Clare hospital at 10:25 a.m. yesterday after a week in hospital and long illness. Former Mt.
