New Glarus Preparations for Wilhelm Tell Pageant

New Glarus announces the 15th annual Wilhelm Tell pageant with German performance at 1 30 p m and English Labor Day show at 1 30 p m in the outdoor amphitheater east of the village. Cast includes Gessier actors Paul Grossenbacher and Dennis Streiff with German Tell Oswald Schneider and English Tell Gilbert Ott. A preceding 8 p m village park program features Yodelers Maennerchor Edelweiss Stars and more. Visitors come from across the country with housing registrations already high.

New Earthquake Strikes Bakersfield. Woman Dies of Heart Attack

A tremor in Bakersfield last night caused the death of Zelda Reynolds, 27, from a heart attack as she sat beside her husband Ralph Reynolds. The quake lasted moments, with no property damage reported. Residents recall the Aug. 22 quake that killed two and injured 32.

Herried To Get Sanity Checkup In Murder Case

Vernon County authorities asked for a mental examination of 70 year old Carl Herried who admitted killing his wife who was mentally ill in a hospital. District Attorney Wayne Schlintz said Herried confessed to shooting his wife and that his attempt to kill himself with a revolver failed. He waived preliminary hearing and was bound over to the Circuit Court held without bond.

Last rites for J Stanley Dietz planned at Madison

Funeral services for 76 year old J Stanley Dietz of Jordan township will be held at 2 p m tomorrow at Fitch Lawrence funeral home in Madison with Rev A T Wallace officiating. Burial in Beloit cemetery with Beloit Masonic lodge graveside services. Dietz a former custodian and superintendent of the GAR Memorial hall in the state capitol recently retired after 12 years of service. He earlier worked as a teacher telegraph operator depot agent and Beloit police chief. Guider Named County Radio Operator in Green County

William J. Guider of Monroe, long time resident, was hired by the Green County sheriff, police and radio committee as a radio operator at the sheriff's office. He replaces the late Adrian Babler who died August 8. Guider, former manager of Heeb Co. wholesale auto parts, was among six applicants and began duties at the jail today.

Wyoming Youth Tries Hand Writing Truman Letter Fails

A 16 year old Basin resident was jailed in Denver on charges of impersonating a federal officer. He allegedly mailed a letter from Plymouth Michigan claiming to be President Truman and tried to dupe an 83 year old widow out of 2000 dollars. He had previously obtained 200 dollars by posing as a U S Secret Ranger Service agent. He was bound over for trial in Basin before U S Commissioner J R Barnwell and may face standard delinquency charges.

Truman Plans Typical Attack

President Truman takes a leading role in the 1952 Democratic campaign with a whistle stop schedule and Western speaking engagements. He aims to stump for Gov. An Eastern Air Lines Constellation attempting a landing at Atlanta municipal airport nosed over, pinning two crewmen in the damaged nose. Fifty four passengers and other crew members were shaken up in the pre-dawn incident.

Ben L. Marcus Dies at Madison Wisconsin official chairman of the Motor Vehicle Dept

Ben L Marcus longtime Wisconsin motor vehicle commissioner died at his Madison home after months of illness. He was 69 and had a heart ailment following an operation. Marcus led the department since 1945 and faced critics from both parties, surviving a 1951 legislative attack and a 1940 call for investigation. He held political and business roles in Muscoda and Grant County and is survived by his wife and four sons, a sister and two brothers. Funeral arrangements were not announced.
