Bullet Struck Milk Truck in Shawano Strike Incident
A milk truck owned by Consolidated Badger Dairy was targeted last night at a highway intersection near Shawano. Sheriff Hugo Baker connected the shooting to the ongoing strike that began June 2, when about 300 AFL dairy workers demanded a ten cent wage increase. The driver, Clyde Hoffman of Gresham, reported a car tailed him and fired, with the slug damaging the rear tank and creating cab fragments. Earlier violence included a July clash between pickets and officers, and a bombing of nearby railroad tracks tied to the plant, though not officially linked to the strike.
