Youths Impress Coaches At National Junior Champ Meet
Monroe 15-year-old Mark Winzenried placed third in the 440 finals at the Junior Champ track event in Houston while Madison youths Larry Franklin and Robert Gordon posted top times. Gordon ran a 4 14.8 mile and set a Wisconsin boys record. Franklin jumped 24 feet 2 1 2 inches in the broad jump. Brent Slay won the 49.3 440. Winzenried equalled the state record with 49.5. The Wisconsin group traveled by jet to Chicago then to St Louis. next year’s national meet moves to Denver.
