DAV fundraiser faces arraignment over DAV misappropriation
CHICAGO A fund raiser accused of bilking the Disabled American Veterans of 2 million dollars will be arraigned August 27 on state regulation violations. Harold Sager 47 was held by an injunction tied to an accounting suit by the DAV with Judge Walker Butler presiding. Sager used the alias Col Harold S McClintock to mediate a deal granting 25 percent commission and 24 percent expenses from funds raised. The attorney general noted a six month probe of Sager’s activities involving property in several states. He had remitted 250000 to the DAV after netting 851000 from donated Borden Co property including two obsolete soybean plants in Kankakee Illinois and Waterloo Iowa. The suit alleges proceeds included 651000 from sale of the Kankakee plant and 150000 for the Waterloo plant. The Borden Co also transferred land in New York Michigan California Ohio Kansas Wisconsin Oregon Oklahoma and Texas to Sager. Wisconsin property was a donated Amherst site.
