The 101st Green County Fair ended with officials reporting a probable small profit despite attendance and grandstand receipts dropping versus last year. Final figures await closing the books, with Sunday the largest gate day at 8 805 single admissions and Saturday 7 934.
Saturday night’s cloudburst disrupted the County Fair show with slick platforms causing slips among dancers and acts. A truck stuck beside the stage, electricians fought shorts and fuses, and a girl cyclist kept her part despite bruises. An ambulance treated a racegoer. Ernest Hayes halted a small fire in the ticket office. O L Hare praised police, fire, National Guard and deputies for fair security.
Mrs Emma Winiger 71 of Route 2 Monroe died Sunday at 1 30 AM at her daughter's home after four years as an invalid. Born May 18 1884 in Unterwalden Switzerland she came to the United States after marrying Joseph Winiger in 1905. Survived by three children Fred Winiger Mrs Harold Dalton Milwaukee and Mrs Lucille Alston Monroe. two brothers John and Frank Christen. three sisters Mrs Emil Buholzer and Mmes Henry Duerst Elizabeth Legler in Switzerland and Montana. nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband 1948 one brother and four sisters in Switzerland. Rosary tonight at 8 Stuessy funeral home services tomorrow.
At 9 30 a m in the funeral home and at 10 in St Victor s Catholic church the member will be honored in funeral rites. Rev E C McCollow will officiate and burial will follow in Calvary cemetery.

Tokyo reports cite Col. John Knox Arnold Jr. and 11 U.S. airmen who were released at Hong Kong border after months of torture in China aimed at extracting spy statements. They detailed beatings, tied hands, tourniquets, and forced standing until shouting, with Arnold admitting one harmless signed statement.
FBI joins the case into the murder of 34 year old Mrs. Wilma Allen whose nude body was found shot twice in a Kansas pasture. She disappeared after shopping and her rings were missing. A man is being questioned as a possible suspect. authorities consider sex or robbery motives. The body was found by farmer Clifford Erhard and his son in Johnson County, Kansas.
Margaret Ellen Jarman, 74, of Brodhead died yesterday at her home. Born January 31, 1881 in Postville, she married Thomas H. Jarman June 28, 1898 in Madison. Survived by three daughters, 11 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. husband and one son predeceased. Services tomorrow at 2:30 at Everson funeral home. Rev. Wilbur Leatherman to officiate. burial Greenwood cemetery. Friends may call tonight.
More than 2,000 people attended the Swiss Volksfest at Wilhelm Tell Park in New Glarus hosted by the New Glarus Maennerchor. Participants included the Bidelweiss Stars, the New Glarus Menennerchor, Ruth Ann Buesser, the New Glarus school band, the Monroe Turners, and local residents Mrs. Anna Gempeler and Emil Schaefer.
Gay Steensrud promoted the 1955 Cheese Day in Sheboygan Horicon and West Bend visiting events and distributing caps. In Sheboygan the Bratwurst Day drew an estimated 100000 attendees and Miss Rosene Harness was crowned Bratwurst Queen by Senator Alexander Wiley. Bratwurst eating champions were Roger Theobald and Eugene Gross.
Miss Inez J. Grant 58 of 1822 11th Street died at 4 55 yesterday in Madison General Hospital after a heart seizure. She was born February 22 1897 in Adams Township and lived in Monroe after a career in Freeport and Chicago. Survived by one brother and three sisters in Monroe. funeral arrangements set with Stuessy and St Victor's Church service led by Rev McCollow.

William De. O'Hearn, 29, of Pawling New York, a carnival worker, was struck on the head by an iron girder while helping set up a ferris wheel at Butler last Thursday night. He died today at a Milwaukee hospital from his injuries.
AP report details a string of deaths across Wisconsin from a cool weekend. Five victims died in a Sauk City head on collision including Warren Barthel and family members. additional fatalities occurred in Washington County Hartford Grant County Milwaukee and other locations involving cars planes and a boat accident.
