Flood Easing In Northern Wisconsin as Bad River Recedes
In Ashland and surrounding areas the Bad River floodwaters began to recede after cresting around 11 p.m. Sunday, with about 500 residents evacuated to higher ground. By morning the river had dropped a foot, leaving most evacuees relocated while Father Lucian and two nuns remained in St. Mary’s convent. Highways and rail lines were washed out, but no injuries or missing persons were reported. Authorities warned of further rain as disaster areas were declared in Ashland Iron and Bayfield counties and the National Guard aided operations with three food drops by helicopter before weather halted flights.

Student Exchange Visit With Delaware School Planned
Monroe high school announced that 30 Alexis DuPont high school students from Wilmington Delaware will visit Monroe in October. Dates are pending but the Monroe group will go to Delaware during Easter week in early April 1961.
