Severe Weekend Storm Hits Monroe Destroys WEKZ Tower
Nearly an inch of rain and high winds battered Monroe. WEKZ suffered a toppled 80-foot FM pickup and two way tower causing building damage. A 69,000 volt fuse failed, cutting power to the business district for about 90 minutes. Sewage plant gauges show .93 inches of rain. Phone service remained mostly normal.
