Machine Shed Burns on Otto Gransee Farm
A machine shed full of lumber burned this morning on the Otto Gransee farm a mile north of County Trunk C on the Dane Green County line. Deputies directed traffic at 11 15 a.m. New Glarus fire department responded with two runs yesterday afternoon within 45 minutes. Grass fires at New Glarus Woods Park and near the Clifton Hoesly farm caused no damage. Park call was at 1 p.m. The other call was at 1 45 p.m.

In Jackson Mississippi a second white jury failed to reach a verdict in the Byron De La Beckwith murder case over Medgar Evers. Circuit Judge Leon Hendrick declared a mistrial after 10 hours of deliberation. Beckwith previously faced a hung jury at his first trial on February 7 with a 6 6 split.

Assembly Kills Democrat Setup On Redistricting
MADISON The State Assembly approved a GOP redistricting bill by 56 to 38 and sent it back to the Senate for nine amendments most minor. The body rejected a Democratic plan to give Milwaukee County 26 Assembly seats and moves toward 25 seats for Milwaukee with contested Senate and assembly realignment. A companion measure would add seats for Waukesha and Milwaukee counties, while a court deadline pressures completion by May 1 or court takeover by May 15. The chamber also set Thursday to consider a tax relief bill for residents over 65 funded partly from a projected state surplus. The Senate approved extending the share of state sales tax kept by businesses from 1 to 2 percent, likely vetoed by the governor, and an item repealing the 3 percent tax on advertising photography supplies.

Mrs Ida Neuenschwander 88 of 619 20th avenue Monroe died at 3 40 this morning in a Green County hospital. She was born Sept 19 1876 in Monroe Township and married William Neuenschwander April 13 1899. They farmed until 1929 then retired to Monroe. She was a member of St John s United Church of Christ. Surviving are four sons George Walter Albert all of Monroe and Lee Madison a daughter Mrs George Robertson Rockford 20 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Services 1 30 p m Monday Stuessy funeral home officiated by Rev Donald Storck. Friends may call Sunday afternoon.

Train wreck near Afton claims four lives in collision
At 2 am a freight train hit a convertible at a Peck Street grade crossing in Afton, killing three and injuring four others. Streich Cleared by Jury Verdict in Wisconsin Case
Morris Streich, former Stoughton high school land director, was found innocent by a Dane County Circuit Court jury in Madison of statutory rape and adultery involving a former student. The eight women and four men deliberated 25 minutes, and spectators cheered when the verdict was read. Judge Edwin M. Wilks admonished them. Streich denied relations but admitted lending $20 for a student in need. Warren Selbo, Stoughton high school principal, testified. he is a former Brodhead principal and teacher.
