Post Office Restores Service After Funding Increase
Washington reports the Post Office Department restarted near normal service after President Eisenhower signed a supplemental appropriation. The remodeled Windy Acres club house at the golf course owned by Mrs Nellie Wilson Block was damaged by a fire started by chimney sparks. Paul Wilson operator and Gerald Wendland Beloit fought the blaze as Monroe firemen arrived to control it. Two upstairs rooms and part of the roof were destroyed while two dining rooms were out of operation. Easter dinner would still be served on schedule with repairs to be rushed. The dining room had opened the day before.

Ammon Sr. of Winslow Succumbs After Illness
John Ammon Sr. of Winslow 65, longtime operator of the Ammon turkey farm, died at 1:20 a m after a long illness. Born June 19, 1891 in Canton Bern Switzerland, he moved to the United States in 1913 and lived in Monroe and Monticello before Illinois. Surviving include his widow Hilda, son John Jr. and three daughters, eight grandchildren, plus siblings in Switzerland and the United States. Services set for 2 p m Saturday at St. John's Church Monroe with burial in Rock Lily Cemetery Winslow. The body will be at Stuessy funeral home tomorrow afternoon.
