About 15 000 textile workers in Maine Massachusetts Rhode Island and Vermont joined a 25 000 strong strike over wages and benefits. Renewed contracts reached for 37 mills while others held firm at 1 30 an hour. In the South derailments and saboteur allegations followed a separate 25 000 worker walkout against L N subsidiaries and the Southern Bell line amid violent clashes and cable damage.

Phillips Wisconsin dairy farmer Steve Stortecky was found guilty of first degree murder in Price County Circuit Court. Nine year old Stanley testified his father shot his mother Julia Stortecky at their home on March 16 after forcing her to “dance” with a .22 pistol, ending a seven hour binge. The jury deliberated about four hours.

Abandoned Ice Box Yields Two Boys’ Bodies
In Los Angeles two young boys, Albert Arebalo eight and David Anthony Fennessy two, were found dead inside an abandoned ice box in a dilapidated chicken shed near their homes after a several hour search by sheriff deputies. The tragedy occurred last night with the boys crouched inside the box.

Four Teens Die In Pomona Car Crash
In Pomona California four teenagers were killed and three others seriously hurt when a sedan left a highway and struck a tree. Investigators cited terrific speed and one body was hurled against a power pole snapping its top. The group, including a 14 year old and six girls, were returning from Fremont Junior High School. All victims were Pomona residents.
